REQUEST TO WITHHOLD DIRECTORY INFORMATION

Instructions: Complete and submit this form to prevent the disclosure of your directory information

Golden Gate University does not ordinarily disclose students’ directory information to outside organizations or individuals, nor does it provide mailing lists to third parties for commercial use or solicitation of any product or service.


However, at its discretion, the University may release directory information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, as amended.


At Golden Gate University, directory information is limited to the following:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • Email address
  • Dates of attendance
  • Enrollment status
  • Program of study and concentration(s)
  • Participation in officially recognized activities
  • Awards • Honors (including Dean’s List) • Degree(s) earned and date(s) conferred
  • ID card photograph

Under the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), students have the right to withhold the disclosure of their directory informationTo exercise this right, students must submit this from to the Office of the Registrar. This request may be submitted at any time.


GGU will honor such requests and withhold all items classified as directory information. However, the University cannot assume responsibility for contacting a student to obtain permission for future disclosures. Once a non-disclosure request is in effect, the student must provide a signed release in order for any directory information to be disclosed to outside individuals or organizations.


The request for non-disclosure will remain in effect until it is rescinded in writing by the student.

Important Considerations

Students should carefully consider the implications of withholding directory information. Doing so means that GGU will be unable to verify enrollment, degrees, or other directory information to third parties such as:

  • Potential employers

  • Credentialing agencies

  • Scholarship organizations

Limitations of Non-Disclosure

Please note that non-disclosure of directory information does not prevent GGU from disclosing personally identifiable information, including directory information, to authorized representatives of federal, state, and local agencies when such disclosure is:

  • In connection with financial aid the student has applied for or received

  • Required by law or allowed under other FERPA exceptions to signed consent

For Law School Students:
Submitting this request will prevent GGU from releasing your directory information to the following organizations. However, this will not impact your eligibility for any awards they sponsor:
• The Witkin Legal Institute, sponsor of the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence, which recognizes exceptional California law school students
The Center for Computer Assisted Legal Instruction, sponsor of the Excellence for the Future Awards, which honors outstanding law school students
